Like Any Other

“Like Any Other” is an awareness campaign, led by Marsa, that aims to dismantle preconceived notions surrounding disability and intimacy. Because individuals living with disabilities are often asexualized or fetishized in our societies, we intend to challenge these prejudices and eradicate taboos by promoting a more inclusive view.

In this series of videos, we amplify the voices of four individuals living with different disabilities who open up about their relationship with their bodies and their own sexuality. By sharing their real-life experiences of navigating intimate relationships, they explore the intersections of disability and desire and prove that they, like any other, aspire to a fulfilling sexual and emotional life.

Through amplifying their narratives, we intend to shed light on the intimate and personal relationship that individuals with disabilities have with their bodies. By listening to them and reflecting on our own experiences, it soon appears that whether individuals live with disabilities or not, we are all on our own self-love and body acceptance journey.

Thus, by promoting understanding, empathy, and inclusivity, we hope that these videos will encourage open conversations about these subjects and provide a space for people with disabilities to express and discuss their sexual health without the burden of stigma.

Our warmest thanks go to Aya, Zena, Steven, and Nabih who agreed to share their stories with us. The agency of the participants was central to the making of these videos. They were made after lengthy conversations with them, in accordance with their wishes, and with complete respect and integrity.

Our deepest gratitude to the director and her team for their dedication to eloquently portray these lived experiences.

Not all disabilities are visible, but they are equally valid and deserving of recognition and support.
